This is from an article posting that my mother has had posted on our refrigerator for which seems like, my entire life. I want to share it with everyone. Enjoy.
The Blessings in an Ordinary Day
Science of Mind - April 1996
What makes a day special? It can be some extraordinary event, of course, but to me it is just being aware of the simple things. A blue sky filled with clouds, the leaves on the trees that gently move with the breeze, flowers bursting forth into bloom after a long winter's nap-these are simple things. We have enough experiences in our lives that serve to complicate matters. Maybe now, more than at any time in history, we have the opportunity to move ahead with the basic understanding of our role in what we experience. A little book on happiness by Harold Kushner suggests that 'when all you ever wanted isn't enough', you need to take another look at where you are coming from. When people are asked the question, 'What do you want out of life?' the most common response is 'I want to be happy'. But it would seem that most of the time a great number of people are not happy. Do you think it is because so many are actively engaged in the pursuit of happiness, and therefore never find it? I firmly believe that happiness grows from the inside, and no amount of searching outside will produce the fulfillment we seek. An ordinary day contains many, many blessings, but we must stop long enough to see them. I take the time to be with my thoughts. I take the time to reflect on the wonders of this universe of which I am a part. In the silence I realize the power of God at work in and through all things. I find blessings in an ordinary day because I know they are there for me and for everyone. Love is! This is the truth about me!
